When Should My Child Get An Orthodontic Evaluation?
The best time for treatment is when an Orthodontic need arises, but as a general rule, age 7 is an ideal time to get an evaluation by Dr. Christopherson and as stated by the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Christopherson has the specialized training to detect warning signs and can offer the best treatment at the right age.
EARLY TREATMENT CAN:
Guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
Help develop facial/jaw growth
Correct harmful oral habits
Reduce the severity of the case and subsequent future treatment
Improve your child’s bite and self-confidence
While the untrained eye might fail to spot irregularities, an Orthodontic evaluation allows for development of efficient treatment plans.
SIGNS TO LOOK FOR:
Crowded, misplaced or blocked-out teeth
Difficulty in chewing or biting
Breathing constantly through the mouth
Bite misalignment (arches of teeth that do not meet properly)
Thumb-sucking
Early Orthodontic treatment is beneficial to reduce the amount and duration of later treatment, preventing more complex conditions from occurring.
