Orthodontic Treatment

Phase 1 Orthodontic treatment, or Early Intervention, helps to correct upper and lower jaw width problems otherwise known as a crossbite. Early treatment can help to reduce crowding in narrow arches and also reduce the need for future extractions along with helping to prevent impacted teeth. This treatment usually lasts about 12 months and consists of a palatal expander and if needed, some upper braces.

Once this phase of treatment is complete a retainer is given to hold the teeth and arch in place. Regular office visits are made until most permanent teeth are in place. At this point Phase 2 treatment may be needed.

Phase 2 Orthodontic treatment consists of upper and lower braces to coordinate the bite and align the teeth. This treatment time can be 16 to 24 month with retention to follow.

Full Treatment consists of upper and lower braces to coordinate the bite and align the teeth.  Full treatment is similar to Phase 2 treatment except these patients did not need early intervention treatment.  Once full treatment is complete retainers are given to hold the teeth and arches in place.
